Common Investing Questions Everyone Asks:

1.  What is the difference between and IRA, Roth IRA, and IRA  Rollover?

An IRA is tax-deferred. You put in pretax contributions in to an IRA, and you are taxed on that money  when you withdraw it at retirement, age 59 1/2.The idea being that you will be taking less out per year in your retirement years, putting you into a lower tax bracket.

A Roth IRA grows tax free You put after tax contributions into a Roth IRA, you have paid taxes on the contributions, and you are never taxed on the growth. When you draw the money out at retirement you don't pay any income taxes on that money.

The average American 50-70 years old has between $50,000 to $200,000 in their 401k, IRA, or Roth IRA.

2. What are the fees?

In general it depends on what you're getting.   Target Portfolios are run very inexpensively and can be had for as little as 1/4 of 1% a year.   The more active managed portfolios that are continuously screening and monitoring for new positions can cost .30% to .50% a quarter.    Our experience and during the annual compliance reviews of fees is that they're pretty immaterial.    Stock accounts can go up or down a years fee in one day.   In general annual fees your paying for professional management and expertise are a couple days of stocks returns.   It's your retirement nest egg you always want to have a seasoned professional reviewing it for you.

3.  We love when clients ask us about a stock.  What's the best advice you can give us about any stock?

We always tell clients if you get a stock tip and like the stock,   start following that stock for the next 6 months before you buy it.   Follow that stock for 6 months, get to know how it trades on a daily and weekly basis.  You'll start to get a feel for what a good price is  and how it trades, so you don't pay up.

4. Where is my account held?  Who is my custodian?

Broxton manages accounts at Schwab Institutional,  TD Ameritrade, E Trade, and Interactive Brokers.   We primarily use Schwab for most retail accounts.  Schwab is fantastic.  You can walk into any Schwab branch in the world to deposit funds or withdrawal funds.  They have an award winning website that allows clients to access stock prices,  statements, tax forms,  and research.  We love Schwab.    Great firm, great people, great client service.
